How to Animate an SVG Translation with SVG ANIMA

Animating an SVG drawing can bring a whole new level of creativity to your designs. With SVG ANIMA, it’s easy to add translation animations to your SVGs, making them more engaging and interactive. In this step-by-step tutorial, we’ll show you how to animate a translation on an SVG drawing using SVG ANIMA.

Create and Import Your SVG Drawing

To get started, you’ll need an SVG drawing. You can either create one from scratch or import an existing SVG file from another design tool. Once your SVG is ready, open SVG ANIMA: https://svganima.com/app/, and click the “Choose an SVG file” button. Upload your SVG file, and it will appear in the editor for customization.

Add Translation Animation

First, select the element you want to animate by clicking on it directly in the image or choosing it from the layer tree in the left-hand panel. Then, click the ANIMATE button and select Translate to open the translation animation settings in the ANIMATION panel on the right.

Customize Your Animation

In the right-hand panel, you can adjust both the duration and keyframes of your animation. Start by setting the total duration. Then, define the start and end positions for each keyframe. You can modify the X and Y positions by either dragging the element directly on the canvas or manually entering the coordinates in the right-hand panel. Use whichever method feels most comfortable—direct movement, inputting values, or a combination of both.

To add new keyframes, click the “New Keyframe” button. You can easily duplicate, modify, or delete keyframes by right-clicking on the keyframe in the right-hand panel and selecting the appropriate option.

If you want to shorten the total animation duration without adjusting each keyframe individually, simply uncheck the Keep Times option and reduce the overall duration. For an animation that loops continuously, check the Infinite box to repeat the animation indefinitely.

Additionally, you can fine-tune the Spline settings to create smoother and more natural transitions between keyframes. The easing effect controls how the animation progresses between keyframes, and it’s set to “linear” by default. You can customize this to achieve different motion effects for your SVG drawing.
